Set in a natural environment of exceptional beauty, Civita is located in a small valley at the foot of the Pollino chain near the lower gorges of the river Raganello.
This small village, occupies the site of the ancient Latin village of “Castrum Sancti Salvatoris” which was later renamed “Civita”. Civita is a small village and natural gate to the Pollino National Park donning scenic and historical sites.
The visitors are attracted here by the world-famous Canyon of Raganello and the adjoining Devil’s Bridge, the greek-byzantine church of Santa Maria Assunta, the Museum of ethnic Italo-Albanian, the traditional chimneys (çimineret ) and the typical Kodra houses.
The Canyon is the longest in Italy, with its 17km and walls up to 850m,
